Danville has managed to retain it's old west charm while
at the same time advancing into the 21st century. The downtown streets are lined with old
buildings, the most famous of which is the Danville Hotel, shown here. This collection of
shops and a restaurant/saloon is a favorite among locals. The town is bordered on both
sides by regional parks: Las Trampas on the west and Mt. Diablo on the east. Within the
town are tennis courts, soccer fields, play areas and five community parks. Iron Horse
Trail, once a rail line, is now a popular hiking and bicycling path running much of the
length of the valley. Danville has it's own cultural offerings, including theater, jazz,
chamber music, symphony concerts and art exhibits. Crime is low, school scores are high.
Average home price: $1,088,000.

Of all the cities up and down the Interstate 680 corridor,
San Ramon is probably one of the most dynamic. Home to Bishop Ranch, a 585 acre office
park that includes Pacific Bell, pictured here, Chevron, and hundreds of other businesses.
Many colleges, such as Cal-State Hayward and Diablo Valley College, offer classes at
satellite campuses. Recreational facilities are readily available, including baseball,
softball, roller and ice skating, basketball, tennis, wrestling, swimming, biking, soccer,
football, ice hockey, and golf. The community center has an auditorium, teen center,
ballet studio and club rooms.
Average home price: $966,000.

Alamo prides itself in it's "upscale" reputation. Although an
unincorporated area governed from Martinez, Alamo still manages to exert control over
growth and development through its "improvement association". There are some
modest homes to be found near the freeway, but much of Alamo is priced well above the
county average. Some new developments have been built recently, with home prices starting
around $600,000. For activities, the Roundhill subdivision has an 18-hole golf course,
tennis courts and a Country Club. Mt. Diablo state park is close by, and the Iron Horse
trail runs right through town.
Average home price: $1,778,000.
